Casey Jones Train Wreck 1900

Listen to the Edison cylinder record, Casey Jones, sung by Billy Murray. This recording from 1912 is based on the train wreck of 1900. Students can listen to the lyrics and through research determine what is fact or fiction. Teachers can use this primary source with a history lesson about transportation. Music teachers can have students research Billy Murray and explore the various types of sound recordings that began when Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877.
