Listserv
A listserv is a discussion
group interested in a specific topic. In order to participate in the discussion
group, you must subscribe to the listserv group. Subscription is free.
Subscribing simply means you sign up to receive messages via e-mail. Hundreds
of people subscribe to these groups and the messages can accumulate quickly.
You will need to read your mail frequently to keep up with the postings.
There are several places on the Web to locate listservs. Directory of Scholarly and Professional E-Conferences Mailing List A mailing list is a one way email to the subscriber. Step 6. Send the message Example: Posting a Message Once you are a subscriber,
you will want to post messages for others in the discussion group to read.
To post a message that will go to all subscribers, send an e-mail to the
discussion group, not the listserver. Example: Send the message. To reply to a message
that all subscribers will read simply click on the reply button, then
type your message. To reply only to the
individual, look for their Internet address in the message and send e-mail
directly to them. Leaving a Listserv To leave a discussion
group replace subscribe with signoff or unsubscribed depending on the
listserv instructions. You will receive these instructions after subscribing.
Print and save them for future reference. Example: Special Notes: Remember all e-mail
sent to a listserv is going to a computer machine. There is no person
to contact in the event a message bounces back. Also you cannot include
a signature file when subscribing to a listserv. |
