Texas State Monument
The Texas Brigade of the Confederate Army during the September 16-17, 1862 battle. The Texas Brigade sealed a gap in the Confederate line that resulted in the greatest casuality loss of any infantry during the war. They had 550 casualties of the 850 men fighting in this battle or over eighty two percent of the men in the Brigade. In 1964 the state of Texas erected a memorial to these brave men.
